Art, nudity and the human body

After centuries of valuing the human form and it aesthetic beauty, there is a spreading coverup developing. All over the country and world people are looking to cover pieces of art that heretofore we're considered beautiful, acceptable and something to behold. For example this incident several years ago

Justice Department covers partially nude statues: No longer will the attorney general be photographed in front of two partially nude statues in the Great Hall of the Department of Justice. ABC News reported that Attorney General John Ashcroft ordered the statues covered because he didn't like being photographed in front of them.

Or this more recent one

During its last week, my solo art nudes exhibit in The Kodiak Gallery (www.michaelsmuse.com) had a police visit. A nun and her female friend called the cops .. yup, called 911, because the gallery shows nudes with genitals. Cops laughed it off… But still, trouble for the gallery. From mvwphoto

Situations like this are happening all the time and they don't all end well for the artist. What is happening to us as a society that we are more comfortable with violence and more people owning guns than we are seeing the human body in its natural state. Are we devolving so that the appreciation of art and aesthetic beauty that is a mark of our civilization is decreasing in human culture. Is it religious entrenchment? Have we all gone mad? What does this mean for nudism in the next generation who will have grown up with this cover up world?
