The naked calendar filled with amateurs trying raise a smile and some dosh for a good cause is nothing new – and experienced its greatest boost when the story of the Calendar Girls came to light in 2003.
Now nobody would have dared come out and criticise those good ladies of Yorkshire, trying to raise money for Leukaemia Research, under the auspices of the Women’s Institute, by calling them “victims in the liberation game”. Nor would anyone have said that these lovely ladies and their carefully placed baked goods were helping to ensure women are “perpetually viewed as sex objects” forevermore.
