op ed on society’s obsession with clothes free people instead of weightier issues
As a young student minister (35), I had occasion to perform a wedding at a nudist resort in NJ. I was surrounded by a hundred people all in the buff for about an hour. It was there I first discovered that there is nothing about bare people that elicits the slightest sexual desire. I also remembered my Historical Sociology Classes learning humans invented clothing partly because they found “if everyone is unclothed sex and the birth rate almost disappear.”
So a question arose in my mind: “Why DO we Americans spend so much effort writing, addressing, emphasizing and concentrating on NAKEDNESS and sexual behaviors.
