Donald Vermithrax wants Hamilton to be the first “clothing optional” city in Canada.
Failing that, the local naturist said he would at least like a designated nearby location to let it all hang out.
City councillors will mull the written request to “stand against the federal policy of segregation against us nudists” at a Friday council meeting. “The mere sight of a person’s genitals harms no one,” writes Vermithrax, later adding “To be forced to wear clothes against our will is to be forced to wear the chains of slavery.”
The passionate naturist makes no apologies for the strong language — even if it riled up some online observers who criticized the comparison of enforced fashion to slavery and segregation. “I think it is totally a rights issue. It is segregation,” he said, suggesting it’s unfair to force nudists to seek out a particular beach or private resort to go clothes-free.
