Naked beachcombers clear litter from Brighton beach

Dozens of environmentalists stripped off for an eye catching beach clear up yesterday to highlight marine pollution – and attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records.A total of 25 people turned up to take off their clothes at Black Rock Beach, picking up nine bags containing 45kg of rubbish from the shingle.

The event, organised by the World Cetacean Alliance and the Brighton Naked Bike Ride, could now become an annual fixture.

Event co-organiser Russell Arnott (outreach officer for WhaleFest: Incredible Oceans) said: “It was a great day; the sun was shining, the sea was like a millpond and everyone that took part did so with passion in their hearts and a smile on their face.

“While we’re still analysing the data, as suspected we found loads of bottle lids, wet wipes, straws and pieces of fishing net.”
