Hiding behind nakedness?

In her paper published in The Australian Journal of Communication, Lelia Green stated that she felt less self-conscious in the nude with other nude people than on a conventional beach (Green, 2001). Having experienced this myself, and spoken to a large number of people involved in the culture now, I’m able to relate to this to some degree. This – in Australia at least, and no doubt in other countries – is possibly due to the Code of Conduct of the Australian Naturist Federation (available here ) which outlines unacceptable behaviour such as staring or touching. And I’ve written before about the way naturists feel freer because no one openly stares at them when they’re naked.
